obstacles these strong black women overcame
Overcame? Are you sure? Because a couple or a few of these women still show MANY signs of psychological trauma.
Let black women be weak sometimes.
And let black men be nurturers sometimes.
Black Women are supposed to be submissive and ladylike.
And Black Men are supposed to be strong and supportive.
We can all be strong in our own ways.
We can all be supportive in our own ways.
You’ve internalized white people’s definition of what it means/what it should mean to be “ladylike” and can’t love what’s right in front of you.
I feel sad for you now. You can only see ugliness.
And ugliness is in the eye of the beholder.
I get this. I really do…
But I always reserved feelings for how pathologized women, especially black women, become for their struggles. I PERSONALLY feel like there are several stamps on my forehead for the traumas/experiences I’ve gone through.
Oh she had an abusive father
Oh, there’s infidelity in her family
Her father didn’t love her enough
So on and so forth
I think the “they clearly still show signs of truama” comment is what got me.
A lot of shit happens to us. I don’t think it’s fair to use past abuse in such defining ways as well. Especially when others are doing the defining.
Again, I understand the point here, I just always held reserved discomfort with this sort of thing.
Perhaps I’m just projecting hella hard on Internet posts…
